Mr George Murphy

Mr Murphy is a Consultant Plastic & Hand Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation trust.
He attended medical school at Cambridge, then Bart's and the London, where he was awarded the Sutton Prize and a Rahere Studentship. He did junior medical training in London and Oxford, then was awarded his national training number on the prestigious Oxford plastic surgery rotation. He completed a PhD in congenital hand surgery at Great Ormond St, securing over £100,000 of funding, then passed the FRCS Plast end of training exam and completed his training in February 2022. He undertook fellowships in hand surgery at Chelsea & Westminster hospital and Great Ormond St, before taking up his consultant post at St Thomas’. He also holds the British Diploma in Hand Surgery.
Mr Murphy was awarded a Hunterian Professorship for his PhD research by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2023. He has published widely and presented at international meetings in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, as well as regularly across Europe. He co-directs the St Thomas' advanced cadaveric hand course, and is departmental lead for research.
Outside of work, he enjoys singing, cycling and spending time with his family.
