PAYING WITH PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE

Using Your Private Medical Insurance at The Real Clinic.

At The Real Clinic, we work with all major UK private medical insurers to make your care as smooth and stress-free as possible. Whether you’re visiting for a consultation, diagnostic test, or surgery, our team will guide you through every step of the insurance process.

Step-by-Step: How to Use Your Private Medical Insurance:

1. Check Your Cover

Before booking an appointment, contact your insurance provider to confirm:

  • Your policy number and level of cover
  • Whether your condition and treatment are included
  • If you need a GP referral to see a specialist
  • Any excess or co-payment you’re responsible for

2. Get a GP or Consultant Referral

Most insurers require a referral from your GP or another consultant before authorising specialist treatment.

You can send your referral letter to us by:

  • Uploading it via our online form
  • Emailing our bookings team at [insert email]
  • Bringing it with you to your first appointment

3. Obtain an Authorisation Number

Once your claim is approved, your insurer will issue an authorisation number or pre-authorisation code.
Please have this ready when booking your appointment, it ensures your insurer is billed directly for your treatment.

4. Book Your Appointment

Our bookings team will confirm:

  • The consultant you’ll see
  • The estimated cost (for reference only, your insurer will confirm coverage)
  • Any remaining balance you may need to pay
  • Call 0203 8181 889 or email info@therealclinic.com to schedule your appointment.

5. On the Day of Your Appointment

Bring:

  • Your insurance membership card
  • Your pre-authorisation code
  • A valid photo ID

Our front-desk team will verify your details and liaise directly with your insurer for billing.

6. Billing and Payments

  • We’ll send invoices directly to your insurer for the covered amount.
  • If your policy includes an excess, you’ll receive a bill from us for that amount only.
  • Some insurers may not cover outpatient diagnostics (like scans or blood tests), so it’s best to confirm this in advance.
